The Chalice of Fractured Stars

Wondrous Item

Legendary Rite of the Celestial Draught

Wine of the Infinite Mind
When wine is poured into the chalice and consumed, the drinker is flooded with prophetic visions.   After drinking, the creature gains the effects of the augury spell without requiring material components.   The drinker also gains advantage on Wisdom (Insight) checks for the next hour.   This ability can be used twice per long rest.
Hallucinatory Revelation
The chalice allows its wielder to induce visions in others.   As an action, the wielder may force a creature within 30 feet to make a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw.   On a failed save, the creature experiences overwhelming hallucinations and:
  • takes 4d8 psychic damage

  • is incapacitated until the end of its next turn
On a successful save, the creature takes half damage and is not incapacitated.   This ability can be used once per long rest.
Fortune’s Whisper
After drinking from the chalice, the drinker gains brief glimpses of fate.   For the next hour, the creature may reroll one attack roll, ability check, or saving throw, choosing the new result.   Once this ability is used, the effect ends.

Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)

Cosmic Insight
Once attuned, the drinker can access deeper visions through the chalice.   Once per long rest, a creature who drinks from the chalice can enter a trance for 1 minute and receive prophetic knowledge equivalent to the divination spell.   The vision appears as symbolic imagery interpreted by the DM.
Shared Madness
The wielder may force a creature to drink from the chalice.   If the creature fails a DC 18 Wisdom saving throw, it is subjected to short-term madness (DMG madness rules) for 1 minute.   This ability can be used once per long rest.

Special Power - Celestial Deluge

Once per week, the wielder may fill the chalice and pour its contents onto the ground, releasing Khione’s full prophetic power.   All creatures within 30 feet must make a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw.   On a failed save:
  • Creatures take 8d10 psychic damage

  • Creatures are affected by confusion for 1 minute
  On a successful save:
  • Creatures take half damage and are not confused.
Recoil:After using this power, the wielder must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or gain two levels of Star Fracture.

Curses

Fractured Mind
Each time a creature drinks from the Chalice of Fractured Stars, it must make a DC 17 Wisdom saving throw.   On a failure, the drinker gains one level of Star Fracture.
Star Fracture Effects

  • 1st Level — The creature occasionally sees phantom stars and suffers disadvantage on Perception checks relying on sight.
  • 2nd Level — The creature hears whispers of possible futures and suffers disadvantage on Wisdom saving throws.
  • 3rd Level — The creature struggles to distinguish present reality from visions of the future.
  • 4th Level — The creature becomes afflicted with indefinite madness until cured by greater restoration or wish.

The Chalice of Fractured Stars is an elegant goblet formed from silver that shimmers like liquid moonlight. Its bowl is etched with constellations that shift subtly when viewed from different angles, and faint motes of starlight drift endlessly inside its depths even when the cup is empty.

When wine is poured into the chalice, the liquid transforms into a swirling cosmic substance resembling a miniature galaxy—deep violet and midnight blue streaked with faint glimmers of starlight. Those who drink from it experience overwhelming visions of possible futures, distant realms, and cosmic truths beyond mortal comprehension.

Khione gifted the chalice to her earliest prophets so they might glimpse fate itself. Some emerged from the experience as legendary oracles. Others lost their sanity entirely, unable to separate the countless possible futures they witnessed from the present moment.

To drink from the chalice is to peer into the fractured tapestry of destiny—and risk shattering the mind in the process.
