Tear of Regret

Wondrous Item

Legendary Ritual of Atonement

Curse Removal:
The Tear of Regret can remove even the most potent curses. As an action, the wielder may cast remove curse at will. For particularly powerful or divine curses, the wielder can channel the Tear’s essence to cast greater restoration. The Tear can also attempt to remove a curse of legendary potency, but doing so requires a contested roll (DC 25) using the wielder's Spellcasting Ability. This ability can be used three times per long rest.
Alleviate Suffering:
The Tear can ease pain caused by curses or lingering magical effects. As an action, the wielder can touch a creature affected by a curse or a curse-like effect. For the next 1 hour, the creature has advantage on saving throws against the curse. This ability can be used a number of times equal to the wielder’s proficiency bonus, refreshing after a long rest.
Empathetic Bond:
Once per short rest, the wielder may form an empathetic bond with a creature affected by grief, regret, or a curse. For 10 minutes, the wielder can see into the creature's thoughts and feel its emotional pain, gaining insight into its suffering. During this bond, the wielder gains advantage on Wisdom (Insight) and Charisma (Persuasion) checks made to console or calm the target. This link may reveal vital information about the creature’s emotional state, history, and regrets.
Purifying Light:
As a bonus action, the Tear emits a radiant, purifying light for 1 minute. All creatures within 30 feet who are affected by fear, curses, or curse-like effects can immediately make a new saving throw to end the effect. Additionally, magical darkness in this area is dispelled. This ability can be used once per long rest.
Sorrowful Ward:
The Tear of Regret creates an aura of sorrowful protection within a 15-foot radius around the wielder. While this aura is active, the wielder and their allies gain resistance to necrotic damage and advantage on saving throws against curses and curse-like effects. The aura can be activated or deactivated as a bonus action.

Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)

Once attuned, the Tear of Regret grants enhanced properties that reflect its connection to compassion, sorrow, and redemption.
Reverie of Redemption:
Once per long rest, if the wielder is reduced to 0 hit points, they can activate the Tear’s power as a reaction. The Tear releases a wave of purifying light that restores the wielder to half their hit points and grants temporary hit points equal to their level. Additionally, all allies within 30 feet regain hit points equal to 4d10 + the wielder's spellcasting modifier.
Empath’s Clarity:
The wielder is no longer affected by spells or abilities that cause the charmed, frightened, or confused conditions. If an enemy attempts to impose one of these effects, the Tear of Regret reflects it back on the source. The source must succeed on a DC 20 Wisdom saving throw or become affected by the same condition for 1 minute.
Eyes of Compassion:
While attuned, the wielder can see the emotional "colors" surrounding creatures. They can identify grief, anger, fear, and regret in the form of shifting auras around nearby creatures, even if the creature is attempting to hide its emotions. The wielder has truesight out to 60 feet while observing these auras.
Wellspring of Forgiveness:
If the wielder performs an act of forgiveness for a creature they have wronged, they can summon the Tear’s power to create a zone of tranquility for 1 hour. All creatures inside this zone experience calm emotions (as per the spell), and the wielder can cast greater restoration without expending a spell slot during this time.

Special Power - Blessing of Redemption

Once per month, the wielder can invoke the Blessing of Redemption, releasing a 60-foot-radius pulse of purifying light. All cursed creatures in this area are instantly freed from their curses. Additionally, every ally in the area regains 10d10 hit points and is freed from any fear or curse-like effects. The light lingers for 1 minute, filling the area with warmth and tranquility.   After using this ability, the Tear becomes dormant for 24 hours, its glow fading to a dull gray as it rests. While dormant, none of the Tear's properties can be used.

Curses

Weight of Sorrow:
Each time the wielder uses the Tear to remove a curse, they must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they experience the emotional pain and regret of the creature they helped. For 1 hour, the wielder suffers disadvantage on attack rolls and ability checks. If the wielder fails this saving throw three times in a row, they become incapacitated for 1 minute, overcome with grief.
Empathy Overload:
If the wielder bonds with a creature whose grief is too great, they must make a DC 18 Charisma saving throw. On a failed save, the wielder is haunted by the creature’s sorrowful memories. They suffer disadvantage on all Wisdom and Charisma checks until they complete a long rest.
Echo of Regret:
The Tear reflects the wielder’s own past regrets and failures. Each dawn, the wielder must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, the wielder is haunted by visions of their own mistakes, suffering disadvantage on initiative rolls and Perception checks until the next dawn.

The Tear of Regret is a flawless, tear-shaped gemstone that radiates a soft, sorrowful blue glow. It emits a palpable sense of loss and longing, drawing out feelings of remorse and reflection from those who hold it. Warm to the touch, the Tear pulses gently as though it has a heartbeat of its own, embodying the sorrow and compassion of Xilmera, the goddess of curses, hexes, and empathy.

Legends say the Tear was formed from the purest aspect of Xilmera's compassion, a rare fragment of her mercy toward those burdened with regret. While its power is immense, it comes at a cost, as wielders are forced to confront not only the regrets of others but also the unresolved guilt in their own hearts.
