The Duke of Ravenmar is the title given to the leader of the duchy of Ravenmar in the Kingdom of Wolfsbrunn. The duke (or duchess) rules over the border region of Kosgren, which includes the towns Asdoren and Wadfeld as well.
Old Kingdom
Ages ago, Ravenmar was a kingdom, and the title of leadership for this region was King or Queen. For a while, the title of duke or duchess remained hereditary and was passed on from parent to child. However, as Ravenmar was often invaded or overtaken by force (from the outside, and the inside), bloodlines became far less important to attain leadership in Ravenmar. These days, the title is given by the people that live in the region and confirmed by the nobility of the kingdom. Even though the title and the responsibilities are still often taken by a noble because they are well known, it is not impossible for a simple commoner to rise up to the challenge and take up the position.
Border Protector
It is not uncommon for foreign invaders to try and attack the kingdom of Wolfsbrunn and the duchy of Ravenmar has often been regarded as a weak point in the defense of the kingdom. Not only because of its history of leadership changes (and corruption) but also because of the geographical location. To the north of the region of Kosgren, where the
Thelian Mountains give way to the tundra of
Kordaasi there have never been many defenses.The easily defended port of Asdoren is also an advantage that many have used in the past to secure their position. However, the city of
Rornach has been able to retake the city numerous times for the kingdom, and as such has created and fostered a close alliance with the duchy of Ravenmar. Because of this, the leader of Ravenmar will always try to maintain a close relationship with the duke or duchess of Rornach.
