Kapito Frog Species in The Sea of Starlight | World Anvil

Kapito Frog

The Kapito frog is an extraordinary beast found in jungles and rainforests. For the first years of its life the frog is quite small but later in life they go through a transformation that causes them to suddenly grow exponentially in size until they are fully grown to about the size of a bull. The young Kapito frog may be cute and harmless, but when matured these magnificent frogs have fully developed their methods of survival and should be approached with caution.   Kapito's Favorite Spots. These types of frogs are most commonly found in hot and damp climates. They are territorial and often settle near freshwater sources such as tranquil ponds or slow-moving streams and creeks. They are known to be a species that avoids confrontation with humanoids, and as such prefer areas with dense vegetation and ample hiding places. Although the Kapito Frog may avoid confrontation, it does not mean that it is unable to defend itself when threatened.   Thunderous Croak. The Kapito frog can puff up their body and inflate their vocal sac, becoming even larger then their already impressive size to deter would-be predators. The frog can then release the air to produce a loud, resonant croak that can be heard echoing through the jungle. These sounds serve as a means of communication and a warning to predators. If they are threatened, the frog can amplify the croak even further to physically harm their assailant.   Acid Spit. Kapito Frogs start out herbivorous, but when fully grown become omnivorous and are known to hunt their prey by spitting globs of acid at them. They metabolize this substance primarily from the Aloe Nautique plant which is one of their favorite snacks. When provoked or confronted, the kapito frog can expel a more potent stream of acid, which not only fends of predators but can also cause significant damage to nearby flora.

I love that they can hurt predators/enemies with their croaks. And their acidic spit is a great touch. My only question: when you say "bull," do you mean a cow/bull or a bullfrog? I was having a hard time imagining their size. That said, the rest of the writing and description was so evocative that I didn't spend too much time worrying about this.
