Keelson's Keep

One of the few buildings in Newport is Keelson's Keep, a sturdy building crafted from thick stones. The Keep is a bulwark against the tumultuous whims of nature and the occasional threats that stir from the edges of the wild lands beyond. Though its walls are built for protection, the true spirit of Keelson's Keep lies in its daily function as a small tavern and a welcoming haven for weary merchants and seafarers.

Residence, Office, Tavern, Keep

Keelson's Keep was built primarily as the harbormaster's residence and office. Here, the harbormaster manages all the maritime and merchantile activity in Newport. In his quarters within the keep, the harbormaster oversees and logs the coming and going of the few ships that visit Newport, ensuring the smooth operation of the harbor's trade. However, Keelson's Keep is not just a place for maintaining the safety and efficiency of Newport’s waters but doubles as a place for social gathering and safety.   The solid and sturdy building provides a comforting solidity against the tumultuos sea just a stone’s throw away. Inside, the atmosphere is warm but calm. Both traveling merchants and sailors, as well as the few people living in Newport come together here for food and drink, accompanied by a tall tale or two. However, the Keep also fucntions as a more literal refuge. When storms rage and the sea turns treacherous, or when rumors of strange creatures in the night arise, the people of Newport seek protection within its walls. The robust stone construction of the Keep provides a sense of security that the wooden structures of the town cannot. Its foundations, laid by the harbormaster himself, have so far withstood the tests of the elements fairly well, standing firm against the buffeting winds and rains that so often lash the coastline.
