Blair
Blair walked through the halls of the estate on Ambermere. She was glad that they were finally on planet. It was funny she knew, the ‘Royal Dragon’ was better equipped than what most people lived in on worlds, and she wanted for nothing, but the non stop jumps was a draw back that she could do without. She could handle them better than King Oswald, but morning sickness had added to the nausea of the Hyper Jump.
It had taken them more than five weeks to reach Ambermere. They had returned to Cinders along the Fabian Gateway Network, before the fleet left the network, and made jumps under it’s own power through the rest of the Daxholm Sector, and through the Warwick Sector until they reached the Anchorage Sector, and the Ambermere System.
Blair missed those ancient gateways. They made travel so much better. She had studied the star charts, and they could have taken the Fabian Gateways all the way back to Bastion, and than used the North Western Route before getting off, and only been under their own Hyper power jump for the last week, but that would have added another week to their journey, and they would have missed a whole other part of the Commonwealth.
They stopped in many minor systems. None for long, none longer than a day, but Blair had been showered with parade after parade on worlds that had several million, or a few hundred. They had skipped over the major systems of the Warwick Sector to save on time to make a more direct route.
King Oswald’s mood seemed to have changed once they reached the Warwick Sector. It had improved when they had left the Dumgarth Sector, and entered the Daxholm Sectr, and shifted again in the Warwick Sector, and she could tell that fear had played a role. Both Dumgarth, and Warwick were border regions, with threats from the Tutha of Walhaz and Eriu, but Blair had doubted any sane person would challenge the royal fleet, it was larger than any she had seen.
The estate was lovely. It was filled with waiting staff, but it seemed like Bots handled all the task, and she wouldn’t have been surprised to learn that the staff was just there to keep her company with new and fresh faces. It felt good to be on the ground though, and it felt even better to sleep in a bed on planet side.
“I want them dead,” Blair heard from a distances. She looked around, and heard nothing before she slowly moved forward down the hall.
“Yes Lord King,” Blair heard another voice, and she thought she required it, whoever was clearly speaking to the king.
A loud band shook Blair as she slowly creep down the hall. The sound of a fist hitting the surface of something.
“Damn vermin, all of them,” King Oswald said aloud. “I want them removed from the Commonwealth, the lot of them.”
“Yes lord King, we are working on that,” Blair heard the voice say again, and realized it belonged to Thane Battleblade.
“The plan is in place Lord King,” a new voice chimed in, and Blair knew it belonged to Bishop Wolfe, one of the four Bishops selected by the High Bishops of the Commonwealth to sit on the small council in their stead.
“Fucking Furse. Where ever I look,” the King hissed. “Raiding our borders, attacking our worlds, and people. Charging our ships twice as much as any other that attempts to trade their goods. They must be dealt with,” he said, and slammed his fist on the table. He let out a sigh. “I should go, get back to my wife. I want reports on the recent Furse attacks in my office by the morning.”
