Legendary
Shadow Step:
The wearer can teleport up to 60 feet to an unoccupied space they can see that is in dim light or darkness. This ability can be used three times per long rest.
Shroud of Night:
As an action, the wearer can become invisible while in darkness for up to 10 minutes or until they attack, cast a spell, or enter an area of bright light. This ability can be used twice per long rest.
Eclipse Aura:
As a bonus action, the wearer can activate an aura of supernatural darkness that extends 30 feet from them and lasts for 1 minute. This darkness is impenetrable by non-magical light, and all creatures within the area, except the wearer and their allies, are blinded. The wearer can see through this magical darkness as if it were normal light. This ability can be used once per long rest.
Vampiric Regeneration:
While the wearer is in an area of darkness, they regain 10 hit points at the start of their turn if they have at least 1 hit point and are not in direct sunlight or bright light. This regeneration ceases if the wearer takes radiant damage.
Armor of Shadows:
The armor grants the wearer resistance to necrotic damage. Additionally, when the wearer is hit by a melee attack while in darkness, the attacker takes 2d10 necrotic damage as shadowy tendrils lash out in retaliation.
Enhanced Properties (Post-Attunement)
Once the wearer has completed the attunement ritual, they gain access to enhanced properties, marking their deeper bond with Xora's shadows.
Shadow King’s Guise:
The wearer’s connection to shadows deepens, granting them the ability to walk on walls and ceilings as if under the effects of the spider climb spell.
Master of Night:
While in dim light or darkness, the wearer becomes a conduit for Xora’s influence, allowing them to summon the essence of night. The wearer gains the following benefits:
- Advantage on Dexterity (Stealth) checks.
- Immunity to the blinded condition.
- Can see in dim light or darkness as if it were bright light, and magical darkness as if it were dim light.
Eternal Eclipse:
The Eclipse Aura ability now lasts for 10 minutes instead of 1 minute. While the aura is active, the wearer can expend 1 use of their Shadow Step ability to teleport within the aura without expending a charge.
Special Power - Nightfall’s Embrace
Once per month, the wearer can invoke Nightfall’s Embrace, summoning an overwhelming force of shadow and darkness.
Effect: As an action, the wearer surrounds themselves and an area of 60 feet in total, impenetrable darkness for 10 minutes. Magical light, even spells of 9th level or lower, cannot pierce this darkness.
Bonuses: While this effect is active, the wearer gains the following benefits:
- Immunity to radiant damage.
- All attacks deal an additional 3d10 necrotic damage.
- The wearer’s movement speed is doubled, and they can walk on walls and ceilings as if under the effect of spider climb.
Exhaustion: After the effect ends, the wearer suffers three levels of exhaustion as the darkness drains their life force.
Curses
Sunlight Sensitivity:
The wearer becomes vulnerable to radiant damage and suffers disadvantage on attack rolls, Wisdom (Perception) checks, and Wisdom (Insight) checks when exposed to direct sunlight.
Living Darkness:
The armor is a living entity bound to the will of Xora. At dawn each day, the wearer must make a DC 16 Wisdom saving throw. On a failed save, they hear the whispers of Xora’s servants in their mind. This causes them to become more secretive and distrustful, suffering disadvantage on Charisma (Persuasion) and Charisma (Insight) checks. If the wearer fails this saving throw three consecutive times, they are cursed with the Mark of the Shadow, causing all creatures aligned with light or purity to sense the darkness within them, imposing disadvantage on all Charisma-based checks until the curse is lifted.
Embrace of the Night:
The armor drains the life force of its wearer. If the wearer goes more than three days without using any of the armor’s abilities (Shadow Step, Shroud of Night, Eclipse Aura), they take 4d10 necrotic damage, which cannot be reduced or avoided by any means. The armor whispers promises of power if the wearer fully submits to its influence, tempting them to wield the shadows with greater frequency.
The Vestige of Eternal Night is a suit of lightweight leather armor crafted from shadow-infused hide. Its surface is as black as the void, constantly shifting with the faint glow of drifting constellations. The armor radiates an eerie presence, and it seems to drink in the surrounding light, creating an ever-present aura of dim shadow around the wearer.
Legends say it was created in service to Xora, the Shadow Maiden, as a gift for her chosen servants. Its touch is unnervingly soft, like silk on skin, and yet it is stronger than steel. The armor offers unparalleled stealth, speed, and protection to those who walk the path of the night. However, such power comes with a price, for the shadows never sleep, and Xora's whispers are always near.
