Awaoki

The various peoples that live in the Awaoka region of Azuno are known as the Awaoki. They are an ancient civilization that has changed immensely over the centuries. The awaoki stand as an ancient civilization with a rich and diverse history, most of which has sadly been lost in time. The Awaoki are not united under a single banner or cause, but are comprised of numerous individual villages, settlements and homesteads as well as a number of nomadic groups and tribes.

Wild Magic Folk

What binds the Awaoki together, is their shared reverence of the arcane and wild magic specifically. The Awaoki have learned to live with the natural occurence of wild magic surging through their lands and veins, but they have not always been able to contain these forces. One of the most prominent Awaoki cities, was the city of Oka Ador which was located on the southern isle of Awaoka. Legend has it, that it was a beacon of cultural heritage and technological advancements. Most of the Awaoki history was recorded and kept in the city, as well as ancient arcane secrets written in Astran. It is thought that the city as a whole, was subjected to a Dimensional Fracture and found itself cast into unfamiliar lands, supposedely severed from the material plane entirely. Thus, everyone and everything in the city has been lost for hundreds of years. There are still many explorers that attempt to find the city, many never finding any trace of it, others never returning from their search.

The Imperial Threat

Adversity struck the Awaoki once again when the Empire of the Jade Eye launched an unusually aggressive campaign to expand its dominion towards the south. A perceived danger of the wild magic of the Awaoki as well as the tactical and strategic advantages of the region became enough cause for the empire to go to war. After the Foxlands Battle the empire ultimately annexed various lands that created a easy to defend border between the Awaoki and the Jadeans. This also allowed for the creation of valuable trade routes for the empire, connecting the west and east coast of southern mainland Azuno. The Awaoki still resist further influence from the empire and most try to maintain whatever little peace there is, but they also know that they will never be able to resist the military force of the empire if they would decide to conquer the rest of Awaoka.
