Savant

The role of a savant in the Empire of the Jade Eye is both prestigious and crucial to the empire's governance. It is the highest academic rank within the Imperial Academies and can only be claimed by the 100 most intelligent and wise individuals within the empire. These 100 savants form legislative branch of the empire called the Savantium and are not only respected by their peers but also embody the empire's dedication to knowledge and innovation.

Being a Savant

The life of a savant in the Empire of the Jade Eye is characterized by a deep commitment to knowledge and the pursuit of knowledge and wisdom. Savants are typically highly disciplined, dedicated individuals with a passion for their field of study. They often lead lives that are heavily centered around research, education and the creation of, and debate surrounding policies.   Savants commonly share traits like curiosity, analytical thinking, and a desire for learning. They are often seen as intellectuals, with a strong sense of duty to the empire and its advancement. Despite their high status, many savants (try to) maintain a level of humility. Their commitment to their work often leads to personal sacrifices, as the pursuit of knowledge and service to the empire takes precedence over personal affairs. Their role in shaping policy and guiding the empire's future earns them respect and admiration. However, there are negative views as well. Some may see the savants as detached from the realities of everyday life, making decisions from within the Imperial Iris without understanding or considering the impact on the common people of the empire.

Becoming a Savant

To be considered for the role of a savant, a candidate must have made significant contributions to their field of study. This often includes writing extensive dissertations that showcase their expertise and depth of understanding. Moreover, a potential savant is expected to have achieved something noteworthy or impressive in their domain, whether it be groundbreaking research, innovative application of knowledge, or a significant advancement in their field.   Once a candidate is proposed, existing savants review and approve the nomination, thus maintaining a high standard of excellence and expertise within the Savantium. This rigorous selection process ensures that the Savantium is composed of the most knowledgeable and capable individuals. However, there is always a risk of backroom politics, where existing savants might favor friends or allies over more qualified candidates. This practice can lead to a form of nepotism, undermining the integrity and effectiveness of the Savantium and has happened a handful of times in t he past. In such cases, all savants from that academy were relieved from their duties and new savants were chosen by the other three academies.
