Wolf on Rookery Lane

The Wolf on Rookery Lane is a bronze statue of a wolf that stands across the street from the iconic Rookery Tower. The wolf's teeth are bared and his muscles are tensed as if ready to leap into battle. The plaque on the plinth, bears the inscription 'In honor of those who protected Ravenmar'. Beneath the plaque in the stone of the plinth, seven names are awkwardly scratched into the stone: Einar, Petral, Nyarrdra, Marefaen, Romond, Lucius, and Haymon. Each name is inscribed in a different style, from Dwarven runes to Elvish script, and common.

Golden Paw

An interesting aspect of the Wolf on Rookery Lane is the left paw of the statue. This is due to the belief among the citizens that touching the paw brings good luck and protects the city. As a result, countless residents and visitors alike have laid their hands upon it, each seeking a bit of fortune in their lives. This tradition has not only polished the paw to a shine but has also turned it into a symbol of hope and good fortune.

Local Legends

The statue has led to a popular local legend tying the statue to the tale of the Rat King of Ravenmar, specifically the variation of the story that involves a hellhound owned by a devil who eventually ate the rat king. These people believe that the wolf statue is supposed to represent the hellhound that brought an end to the Rat King's reign of mischief. They believe that touching the paw of the wolf grants a blessing that protects them from disease and infestation. Whether these people should be believed is up for debate, as they also say that some nights, you can hear the squeaking of a terrified rat from inside the belly of the statue.
