Zaldarion

Zaldarion is the capital of the island of Tuantiro. It is believed to be the first city that was ever founded on the continent of Azuno. The city is mostly subterranean and is situated inside the mountain of the active Zaldir volcano after which it was named.

Primordial Power

Why the city was built into the volcano has become a mystery lost to time, but the first citizens of Zaldarion made sure that they could make the location safe and eventually were able to harness the power of the volcano in various ways. When Zaldarion was founded, enchanters worked together with architects to prevent destructive eruptions through enchantments made with Runic Inscription which tempered or redirected the immense power of the volcano. The city grew in two ways, as the dark stone was carved from the mountainside, it became clear that not all of it was suitable to build with, which made the progress of building structures on the surface slow, however, the mines from which the stone came, became vast structures in which the people eventually built their dwellings and homes.

In time, the Zaldarians learned to utilize the energy and heat of the volcano in many ways which allowed the city to flourish and grow even further. One of the most common forms is through the cooking method of Volcanic Slow Boiling, which is thought to have originated in Zaldarion. There are also many smiths and artisans in the city that use the magma and lava from the volcano in their respective crafts. Zaldarian steel and metal is prized across Azuno for its durability and quality which was perfected over many centuries. The people that live in Zaldarion have mastered the balance between survival and comfort, as they have thrived for centuries so close to the heart of the volcano that churns beneath their feet.
