Imitate Spell in The Sea of Starlight | World Anvil

Imitate

6th level Conjuration

Casting Time. 1 Reaction, which you take when a creature within range casts a spell.
Range. 90ft.
Components. V, S, M (A small circular mirror)
Duration. Instantaneous
Classes. Bard, Sorcerer, Warlock, Wizard
You attempt to imitate a creature you can see that is casting a spell. If the creature is casting a spell of 6th level or lower, you may (start to) cast the same spell with a target or effect of your choice as outlined within the spell until the end of your next turn. The required casting time, range, and components of the spell all apply for you to be able to cast the spell, but you do not expend an additional spell slot to cast it. If the spell is 7th level or higher, you have to make an ability check using your spellcasting ability. The DC equals 15 + the spell’s level. If you have the spell you try to imitate prepared (if your class requires you to prepare spells) or if you know it (if your class has a list of known spells), the DC is lowered by 5. On a success, you may (start to) cast the spell until the end of your next turn.
If the spell has a casting time that is longer than 1 action; you need to be able to see the other creature casting the spell throughout the casting time, if they stop casting the spell, you also stop casting your imitation.
If the duration is longer than instantaneous, you may continue concentrating on the spell, even if the caster you imitated has stopped concentrating on their spell.
