Runescribe

Runescribe is the title given to people who are able to write or inscribe magical symbols or words. It is a term that is commonly applied to those who practice the enchanting art of Runic Inscription but is also applied to scribes and wizards who are able to create a written manifestation of a spell or even create spellscrolls.

Training and education are essential for anyone who wishes to become a Runescribe. In order to learn the art, an individual must undergo rigorous training and study in order to master the various arcane symbols and their meanings. This often involves learning different languages and dialects, as many of the oldest and most powerful symbols and spells are written in complex languages some of which are ancient and are no longer widely spoken.

Steady Hand

In addition to learning the meanings and uses of the symbols, Runescribes also need to learn how to properly write them down. Some may choose ink and paper, and are trained in the art of caligraphy and illustration. Most wizards have undergone such training to be able to expand their arsenal of spells in their tomes. Other runescribes might choose to become an enchanter and move into the field of Runic Inscription. These individuals have to be able to create more complex combinations of symbols and learn to inscribe the symbols onto various surfaces such as stone, wood, or metal. This requires a great deal of skill and precision, as even the slightest mistake in the placement or form of a rune can alter its meaning and effectiveness, possibly rendering the inscription useless.
