Runestyli

Rarity varies
Requires proficiency with Calligrapher's Tools

These pen shaped wands are imbued with magic. A skilled calligraphist is able to activate the magic by envisioning the rune and how it should be inscribed in their mind to activate the magic within the stylus. When a Runestylus is activated, the tip glows with a soft, ethereal light when it is ready to inscribe the rune upon a surface. This rune may be placed on the plate armor of a knight, the bow of a hunter, or even upon the skin of an individual. With a simple tap, the stylus unleashes its magic, leaving behind a glowing arcane rune that hums with energy. This magical rune is not permanent and typically fades after some time has passed and most runestyli only hold an amount of arcane energy to place a limited amount of runes.

Types and Construction

There are several types of Runestyli, some can be used to temporarily enchant an item or object, whilst others directly influence the capabilities of a creature or person. Most styli are created with a glass core and metal nib. The metal nibs are ideally from a type of metal that is best suited for the type of magic the runestylus needs to imbue, but brass and silver are most common. The glass is typically tinted with a pigment or dye to distinguish it clearly from other writing implements and other runestyli. After the core is formed and polished, it is charged with arcane energy by an Enchanter skilled in Arcane Impartment.
