Stor Settlement in The Sea of Starlight | World Anvil

Stor

Stor is a city unlike any other in the Kingdom of Wolfsbrunn. It sits on the northern end of the island of Stratos, it is known as a hub of wisdom and knowledge through the quite large presence of members and institutions of the Amaranthine Archivists in the city. Arcanists, scholars and students flock to Stor from all corners of the realm to delve into its vast collections and seek answers to the mysteries of the world. It is a city that is constantly evolving and growing, and it is a place that anyone with an open mind and a thirst for knowledge would be proud to call home.

Harbor of Scholars

One of the most impressive buildings within Stor is the Grand Archive of Stor, a vast complex housing countless books, tomes and scrolls. It is here where the city's most dedicated scholars of the Amaranthine Archivists can be found, poring over ancient tomes and arcane manuscripts. There is also a solid community of tinkerers creating various mechanisms and machines as well as arcanists trying their hand at fusing magic with these type of devices.

City for the Senses

Even though it has many libraries and schools, Stor is not just a city of scholarship. It is also a place of great culture and entertainment. There are quite a few theaters, concert halls, and art galleries scattered throughout the city. The city's wide and quiet streets are lined with large trees which provide a peaceful respite from the academic, artistic and arcane studies and work that is done within the walls of its buildings. For the more culinary incline, the taverns and inss offer a wide variety of delightful dishes and tasteful beverages from the island itself as well as delicacies that arrive through the Hidden Harbor which have been imported from far away places.

Treasured Ideas

Stor is not without its challenges. Like any city, it has its share of crime and corruption, and the constant influx of new people and ideas can sometimes lead to conflicts and tensions. Ethical, scientific and artistic discussions have lead to some disputes within the city, sometimes with quite gruesome endings. Even though knowledge or wisdom is more often than not a verry intangible commodity, any noble, advisor or spy will tell you it can be of incredible worth. It is therefore not strange that a lot of people in the city of Stor have their own hidden agendas, plans and secrets which they do not wish to share with others to avoid conflicts or having their work stolen.
