Jihlan Morvovo Character in The Sea of Starlight | World Anvil

Jihlan Morvovo

Jihlan Morvovo is known in the history of the Crimson Chain Isles as a visionary and a pioneer in communication for his creation of the Kite Cypher. Jihlan made it his life's mission to bridge the vast distances that separated the islands of the Crimson Chain Isles.

Early Life

According to historical records, Jihlan had always had an interest in flying kites as a young child and would construct and design them in his teenage years. At a certain point in his life, a friend who had boarded a ship used a kite he had gotten from Jihlan as a sign to say farewell to him. As Jihlan saw the kite flying high above the waves and eventually disappear on the horizon, he was suddenly inspired to create a system by which messages might be conveyed through the use of kites. It is unknown where Jihlan first lived and developed the first instance of the Kite Cypher system but initially it was only used to convey messages for relative short distances. Jihlan traveled across the Crimson Chain Isles to demonstrate his method, and those who had seen it would try to replicate it in their homelands. Soon, the method spread across the Crimson Chain Isles and was adopted by many cities and villages. Morvovo then created the first blueprints for kitespires, which created the necessity for the occupation of Kitekeeper, the person that was responsible for launching, flying and maintaining the kites and sending out messages across the region.

Further Research

Later in life, Jihlan went on to travel to Javesz in an effort to further develop his invention. With the help of enchanters he developed a number spell stitch levitation enchantments that allowed kites to fly much higher and in low winds. Eventually, this development also eliminated the need for kitekeepers as it made flying the kites much easier.

Communcative Revolutionist

During a time of relative peace between the different islands, Jihlan introduced the improved kites across the Crimson Chain Isles, this allowed for arrays of kites to be flown easily and along with the implementation of lenses and telescopes provided all the means for messages to be sent over incredibly large distances. This development was instrumental in uniting the various nations, cities and villages of the Crimson Chain Isles further and provide a form of security for the many islands through the shared responsibility of communicating important information.
