Shadowbark is taken from the Ebony Birch, but not all wood from this tree is always high quality Shadowbark timber. The quality of the wood depends on if the birch grows in a place where the environment is sufficiently charged with negative Nebulantium but not too much so that it can still be properly absorbed over a long period of time. This type of energy is the same type that can be found in abbundance on the Plane of Shadow and which also flows from portals or rifts that lead to this plane of existence. Birches close to these portals have the highest quality Shadowbark. Because of this difficult to control environmental requirement, it is quite a rare material and is not one that can easily be cultivated.
